If you avoid the dentist for any reason, read this please. My dental phobia isn't garden variety by any means. It's actually pretty humiliating because this is the ONE place in life where I turn into a complete mess and lose my composure. I had a bad dentist as a kid that gave me basic fear of dentists, then I survived an assault as an adult that left me with PTSD (I don't want strangers touching me, etc). I cry through exams and cleanings, and it's like I just lose control or logic. Naturally, I didn't go to the dentist for 15 years. The fun doesn't end there, I have a health complication that makes me more difficult to treat and medicate. I ended up at Hill Country Dentists because I needed an emergency root canal. I'd spent 4 days in pain, being passed around and spending hundreds of dollars at other dentists and endodontist offices that ended up not being able to treat me for whatever reason, and I was treated like a burden or a weirdo. I get it, it's a lot. Lorelei (the office manager) was one of the many people I contacted while I was looking for in-network options. She called back, she remembered my weekend plans with family (what?!) and urged me to just come and get relief. This is how Lorelei handled my anxiety: Expense? We'll work it out. Fear? I understand, and let me to tell you why... Medical Condition? We have the best staff and they have worked with people with all sorts of special circumstances, no problem. It wasn't all talk. I changed gears- I was ready to go to a low cost place and get my tooth pulled- and saw her group instead. Jana assisted and Dr. Neeha treated. They were both so sweet and professional. They asked me questions when they could tell I wasn't speaking up. They helped me learn to advocate for myself. I was out in a couple of hours, and out of pain. What's even more remarkable, is the way they made me feel. I wasn't a pain in the side, I was a real person with understandable fears. I've never felt so supported and understood. It helped me with way more than the pain in my mouth. I have plans to go back to complete the treatment plan we set up, and go further than that and restore my dental health completely with them, over time. I'm actually excited to feel good about my teeth again. If I ever move away, I'll fly back to go here lol.
